THE SIROCCO OF JULY, 1990

Job was once accused of filling “his belly with the east wind.” Ephraim “fed” on this wind and it dried him up (Hosea 13:15). It was a “vehement east wind” that brought Jonah a fainting spell (Jonah 4:8), and the Chaldeans who burnt Jerusalem to the ground (Hab. 1:9) were said to “sup up as the east wind.”

Our expression is “hot air.” The sirocco was a withering, dry, sandy blast out of the east that could do nothing but destroy fruit: it could produce nothing. It was this blast of hot air that brought the plague of locusts on Egypt (Exod. 10:13–14), and destroyed all the fruit of the land.

When we speak of Bible critics and correctors being “full of hot air,” this is what we mean: they are gas bags. Hot air will cause an empty balloon to rise.

Now in our own generation, for more than forty years, all we have heard from these hypocrites who use a Book they do not believe (and prefer a Book they sit in judgment on) is that there are “errors” in it. Every Nicolaitan in America is of the same mind. “Your Bible has mistakes in it.” They know because they are smart and you aren’t. They know because they read somewhere where some “godly” man said the AV was not perfect, so they believed him instead of the One who put the book in their hands in the first place.

The common heresy that your Bible is filled with errors comes from collating statements made by famous Christians at a moment when their pride had the upper hand in their life and they demonstrated their superiority over the Book in order to impress the Body of Christ. Once these off-handed statements were collated, they became embodied in a holy shrine called “the historic position in regards to the Scripture.”

It was built by the Adamic nature in Bible-rejecting Fundamentalists and Conservatives. The statements extracted from a dozen of these men (say Torrey, Broadus, Criswell, Scarborough, et al.) are taken to be God-given, divine FIATS that a believer must believe in order to be “orthodox.” The motive behind this skullduggery is deadly. It is so that the Body of Christ will be held in submission to a “priest class” of Greek scholars whose superior knowledge equips them to correct the final authority of God Almighty: Nicolaitanism.

Now, I collated Torrey’s statements and Spurgeon’s statements and Truman Dollar’s statements and Jerry Falwell’s statements and even Gary Hudson’s statements (see The Last Grenade) where they DENY the “historic position” that their teachers profess to be the truth. In unguarded moments, all of them professed to be reading and teaching a Book that is “given by inspiration,” and is a Book that is inerrant and infallible. So I collated the contradiction to the Nicolaitan position, from the same sources.

This leaves a believer where we dumped Hot Dog Hymers in 1988. He must choose. If he says that it
